Summer Parnell

Lead Teacher, 5th Grade Reading

Hello! I'm Ms. Parnell and I'm the 5th grade reading teacher here at Collegiate Hall. I was born and raised in Tulsa, and I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Arts in Art History and Italian. I spent a year studying in Italy, where I attended the University of Bologna (the oldest university in the world) and taught English to young Italian students. I speak (almost) fluent Italian, and I am working on learning Spanish!

As a reading teacher, I’m inspired by the quote widely attributed to Frederick Douglass that states, “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” I joined education because I strongly believe that learning to read, and learning in general, is a catalyst for freedom. One of my biggest personal convictions is that education is paramount to forging strong, inspired, smart and loving youth that will shape the future of our world. I absolutely love Tulsa and I’m thrilled to be serving in the community that raised me. Go Griffins!
